TFA Advance Punching - The 1 inch Punch

TFA Advanced
Punching

The 1 inch Punch

Video summery:
Sifu Marcus Lovemore demonstrates the Transformational Fighting Arts advanced punching technique of the one inch punch.

Training Suggestions
I recommend setting up a sand bag on a very solid wall or pole to practice this. Though, I don't recommend you employ this particular technique until you can generate a good amount of power without hesitation and with fluidly in the moment. Practice your 1in punch from as many different angles as you can, to facilitate functionality. Only when you have master these principles and the ones in the video should you attempt to use your 1 inch punch in sparring. But, once you become proficient at this, it will take your trapping and in-fighting to the next level.

Good training,
Sifu Marcus

TFA Intermediate Defense - Sticky Hands Parry

TFA Intermediate
Defense
Sticky Hands Parry

Video summery:
Sifu Marcus Lovemore demonstrates the Transformational Fighting Arts intermediate defensive technique of the sticky hands parry.

Training Suggestions
Keep in mind that this technique is less about strength and power, and more about fluidity and integration. What do I mean by this? Well, when most of my students first practice this technique their most common challenge is the relaxed non-combative nature of this technique. The parry can be very deceptive in the way that, unlike most other parries, which are primarily very aggressive in nature, this parry is not necessarily passive but is intensely connective.

To truly master this technique, what you want to do is focus on the receiving aspect of the technique rather than what most parries focus on, which is repelling or defensive aspects. Although the sticky hands parry is a defensive technique too, in that you are reacting to an attack, but to really understand the motion you must treat the attach as an opportunity not an attack, and invite it in with the parry. Take your opponents energy and momentum and use it rather than resist it. Because at the end of the day resistance only leads to suffering.

Although this technique takes quite a bit of practice to perfect once you become proficient you will see the benefit to you and your life.

Good training,
Sifu Marcus

TFA Intermediate Defense - The Slip

TFA Intermediate
Defense
The Slip

Video summery:
Sifu Marcus Lovemore demonstrates the Transformational Fighting Arts defensive technique, The Slip.

Training Suggestions:
Keep in mind that the slip technique is essentially just a well-timed straight punch being used as a counter punch. The only difference is, you're adjusting your head just a bit to the left or right, depending on which direction you're slipping to, inside or out. Once again, keep in mind your center. Try not to lean too much in one direction or the other, otherwise it will rob you of the power you're trying to generate onto your target. I find that counter punching to the face is sometimes ineffectual, and depending on the height of your target, sometimes almost impossible. As an alternative target, I recommend the nerve cluster right under the armpit, or the groin. And of course, the solar plexus or the liver is always just fine. If your object is just to disable, I favor hitting the I.T. band or the outside of the thigh, creating a charlie-horse. This usually disengages the thigh for two-three minutes, so you can run away very fast. Just to reiterate, this technique is not about dodging, it's more about your opportunity to hit. I highly recommend practicing this in front of a mirror aiming at your own head, or wherever you're aiming for on an opponent, as a training technique. Alternatively, setting up a clothesline or horizontal pole at shoulder height, to simulate your opponent's arm, is something you can also practice on. If you have any questions or suggestions, don't hesitate to post a comment.

Have an excellent training,
Sifu

TFA Fundamentals - Defense - The 4 Corners

TFA Fundamentals
Defense
The 4 Corners

Video summery:
Sifu Marcus Lovemore demonstrates the Transformational Fighting Arts fundamentals in defense - the four corners.

Training Suggestions:
I find that practicing the 4 corners, amusing you don't have a partner, is best in front of a mirror. You should be able to transition fluidly from any of the 4 corner to any of the other 4 corner techniques. Remember though, when you are facing the mirror aim a at a specific target on you reflection, but make sure you are not to close to the mirror and also to keep your punching arm relaxed and bent, otherwise you might hyper extend, since you are not making contact with anything.
I like using the 4 corners as a warm up before shadow boxing. Try it.

Have an excellent training,
Sifu
